There has been a decent amount of back slapping going on at Manchester United this season as players have regularly gone eon recored to praise team mates and other club staff. That speaks volumes for the general spirit at the club under Louis van Gaal.

But we always find it particularly gratifying when foreign players and coaches come in and talk up the virtues of Wayne Rooney. He is often criticised for not doing the business at big tournaments for England.

But if he had a half decent team around him, as he does at Manchester United, he would be fine. As far as we are concerned Wayne Rooney is comfortably the most technically gifted England player of his generation and, without him, Manchester United simply wouldn’t have been the same dominant force over the last decade.

Louis van Gaal made him captain and is obviously a fan. Angel di Maria praised him this week. And now Ander Herrera has bigged up the big man who United signed for £27m in 2004. He told ManUtd.com:

“I feel lucky to be able to play with Wayne. He is one of the best players in the world,”

“He is so competitive in every game, it doesn’t what the game is, he always wants to win. When you see Wayne from outside the club, you might think he is a like superstar and he is but he is also someone who always wants to help you.

Herrera himself has been a bit hit and miss since joining Manchester United. He started preseason brightly but has also had some patchy performances and he’s been hindered by a fractured rib. But his wonder goal against Yeovil will hopefully set him on course for an impressive second half of the season – Manchester United certianly expect big things from their big money summer signing.

Let’s have a look at some highlights of his short time at Manchester United os far. United fans: can Herrera make the grade?
