Real Madrid have an imperious midfield when everyone is fit. In Modric and Kroos the team has an engine room that has immediately gelled. Indeed, it’s difficult to remember Madrid ever having two such players who are so well suited.
But the recent injury to Luka Modric showed that they may still need further depth in that area, especially if German international Sami Khedira leaves the club this summer. Illaramendi is still waiting for his chance but regular reports have suggested that Real Madrid are keen on Chelsea midfield man Ramires.
The Brazilian will feel quite unlucky, at this post in time, having been such a big part of the Chelsea side for the last two years. But the arrivals of Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas have severely limited the game time of a player who Carlo Ancelotti knows well from his tenure as the manager of the London club.
And the player himself has now commented on the speculation linking him with a move:
“Juventus and Real Madrid are two of the biggest teams in the world.
“I’m flattered that my name has been linked to them, but I know nothing of any negotiations.
At 27 Ramires is a player who most big clubs would want in their squad. He’s technically excellent but also an extremely hard worker who covers every inch of grass in a typical 90 minute spell. He’s played an impressive 51 times for Brazil, soring 4 goals.
Let’s take look at him inaction. Real Madrid fans: do you need Ramires or is Illaramendi the man?
