Liverpool’s campaign has not been helped one bit by the injury to Daniel Sturridge, which has kept him out of the team for most of the season.
But, even with Sturridge fit, it seemed obvious that Brendan Rodgers would have to invest big bucks on a striker to replace the outgoing Luis Suarez in the summer.
As it turned out he bought Ricky Lambert – honest and hard working but with a noticeable lack of pace – and Mario Balotelli who has constantly been in the headlines, but not for his great performances or goals.
Liverpool’s problem remains a lack of killer instinct up top and Brendan Rodgers may just have time to save his club’s season if he acts quickly and decisively. To this end, latest reports are very juicy.
The Express reports:
Brendan Rodgers to solve Liverpool’s striker CRISIS with £50m Karim Benzema bid
LIVERPOOL have put Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema at the top of their wishlist for the January transfer window.
And Rodgers is keen to address the situation in January, with today’s reports in Spain suggesting he’ll make a £50m bid for Benzema.
Obviously this would be a dream signing for the club. But it’s surely about as far-fetched an idea as they come.
Benzema is currently having his best season for Real Madrid. He’s scored 14 goals in 23 appearances so far and all the Real fans seem to finally be on his side.
So the idea that he would move to a club, mid-season, which has crashed out of The Champions League and is certainly not guaranteed a top four finish, is very hard to believe.
But what a player he would be for Liverpool. He’s fulfilling all the potential that he showed in his early days at Lyon. He’s fast, powerful, clinical and ruthless. He has also impressed us this year with his all-round game and team work. He’s just a wonderful player and one who Carlo Ancelotti and Real Madrid will surely want to keep.
Let’s see him in action. Liverpool fans: Do you feel that there is any chance at all of snaring this guy in Jan?
