New Link: Manchester United to launch bid for passmaster with world at his feet – report

The prelude to this window has seen the press largely throwing up names that have been linked to Manchester United persistently over the last year or so.

A relatively fresh one for you then. This pertains to a Barcelona player who hasn’t been in Spain for long.

The Express reports:

Man Utd and Man City to launch £20m bids for Barcelona’s Ivan Rakitic

MANCHESTER UNITED are ready to battle it out with Manchester City for the signature of Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic.

The report suggests that the Croatian has generated more questions than answers during his time at the club and that Barcelona are considering letting him go for the right price.

We have seen Rakitic play for Barcelona on several occasions this season. He’s a similar type to Luka Modric in that he’s a tidy and energetic player who keeps things moving with a decent range of passing.

His start to life at Barcelona hasn’t been stupendous but he has already played 20 times for the club (4 goals) which means he must have a measure of their trust.

Add to this the fact that Barcelona are at the start of a transfer ban and you would imagine that they will be looking to hold onto the vast majority of their squad.

Manchester United definitely need another midfielder of real class. But it’s pretty clear to us that they are looking to do a deal with Roma’s Kevin Strootman. Beyond that we think that Manchester Unite will focus on defenders and a right winger.

So we believe that the 26 year will be staying at Barcelona for the foreseeable future.

Let’s take look at him in action. Manchester United fans: keen?
