Liverpool were always going to have a period of adjustment after losing the rare talents of Luis.
But their lack of goal power this season has been alarming. The injury to Daniel Sturridge is another obvious reason for this. And while Lambert has started scoring a couple of late, Mario Balotelli hasn’t yet stepped up to the plate. Perhaps a January move isn’t completely off the table for the Italian?
But Liverpool must now look to bring in some more quality and the brilliant youngster Xherdan Shaqiri will probably be available in January according to Bayern Munchen president Franz Beckenbauer.
‘Bayern have already sent out a signal and indicated to him that he can probably go in the winter break, when he wants,’ Beckenbauer told German channel Sport1.
‘I think it’s a shame because he is a great talent,’ the 69-year-old added.
The report also quotes the player himself who, earlier this season, stated that Liverpool had made a summer bid.
‘Liverpool made a bid for me before the World Cup but Bayern put their foot down and told me, “We’re not going to sell you”,’ said Shaqiri.
At just 21 this guy has an amazing amount of experience. He was one of the star turns at The World Cup in Brazil, banging in a memorable hat-trick in Switzerland’s game against Honduras.
He really does have a great skill set which would be suited to Liverpool. He’s very fast, loves to dribble and has a seriously powerful shot on him. The left footer would add dynamism and pace to a hitherto laboured Liverpool attack. He’s also got the strength to succeed in The Premier League.
Shaqiri has the pace and intelligence to play anywhere across the front line. He may not have had it all his own way in Germany but has still hit 17 goals in 78 games for the club. He’s also scored a remarkable 15 in 41 for a very mediocre Swiss national side.
This is a no-brainer for Liverpool. We expect him to be a success at the club but, even if he failed, the club would recoup most, if not all, of their money considering the player’s age.
Let’s see him in full flow. Liverpool fans: keen?
