Manchester United: ‘For a manager he’s a fantastic player’ says Louis van Gaal about in form star

Along with Rooney, Carrick is the main man at United

Louis van Gaal gave his press conference a day earlier than usual as the Manchester United team prepares to travel to Arsenal for the Saturday teatime kickoff at The Emirates.

The Dutchman was calm and good-spirited as always, despite the current adversity that he faces with his injury hit squad.

But he did find the time to wax lyrical about one of the stars of Manchester United’s stuttering season – Wayne Rooney.

He said that he congratulated the player for receiving his 100th international cap for England in the week. When asked how highly he rated Rooney as a striker he simply said ‘Rooney is not a typical striker.’ But he went on to explain that Wazza performs a number of functions for the team, has the remarkable strength to play games in quick succession and:

‘For a manager he’s a fantastic player’

There is a certain spark in the eyes when Van Gaal is asked to talk about the Manchester United captain. They clearly share similar levels of enthusiasm for the game and we always felt that the Dutchman would value Rooney more highly than any other team member once he got to know the lad.

The Manchester United star becomes the youngest player to receive 100 caps for England and he’s beginning to get the credit that he deserves after some unfair criticism in the past.
