Barcelona can’t buy for a year due to their transfer ban. Because of this it’s particularly important for them to hold onto their star players in the coming windows.

So it’s good to hear that Lionel Messi won’t be off any time soon. There has been speculation of late that the lad might be planning a final big contract at another club. But his father has moved to reassure Barcelona fans that his son is staying. The Daily Mail reports:

The thought is to stay here (in Barcelona),’ Jorge Messi was quoted as saying by Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia on Wednesday.

‘But as people read between the lines there is exaggeration,’ he added.

‘It’s clear that if tomorrow the club says to you “we have this offer, we want to sell you”, it would have to be studied. Although right now it is not even on the agenda.’

In truth you just can’t imagine him playing anywhere else can you?

The other great bit of recent Barcelona news is that the brilliant youngster Adama Traore has signed a new contract with the club which ties the 18 year old to the Nou Camp for another three years. He seems absolutely delighted with the deal and told Barca TV:

“I am very happy. It’s a dream come true for any player from the youth system. It’s a happy day for my family,” he told Barca TV.

“I think a lot of the reason for my progression lies with the coaches I have had here at Barca as they have told me how to improve, which is what I try to do.”

Traore has already made his debut for Barcelona – he came on as a late substitute for Neymar against Granda in November 2013 – but he has played most of his football so far for the youth and Barcelona B teams. He may take a couple of years to get regular gametime but he looks like one to watch.

Let’s take a look at him in action. Barca fans: Will Traore make the grade or eventually move on?
