It’s been a hitherto troubled marriage for Liverpool and Mario Balotelli. We seem to be amongst a seriously dwindling contingent who still believe that he’s worth a place in the Liverpool team.
That’s not to say that he is necessarily going to be a success. Brendan Rodgers has a crucial role in massaging the best out of his temperamental striker. If he fails then the transfer may ultimately go down as a failure.
But this is still a top player. Ballotelli just needs time and encouragement because he’s a wonderful finisher when on form.
But rumours today suggest that Liverpool are already looking for an exit for their striker with Napoli said to be interested in taking him back to Italy just months after his departure from Milan.
We think Brendan Rodgers should hold onto the lad and consider his own handling of the situation. If he manages Balotelli correctly he will see results. Form is temporary but class is permanent and Balotelli is worth his place in that squad.
He may be one of the more difficult players to coach but Liverpool is a great place for the lad and Rodgers can only improve his managerial experience by pushing the right buttons with Mario. At 24 some seem to forget that this is still a young lad with most of his career ahead of him.
It may not be a popular idea right now but we think that Liverpool should hold onto their investment and help it to mature.
Liverpool fans: do you still want Mario?
