This is one that could be very frustrating for the Liverpool fans. With big games coming up at home and abroad some may forgive Brendan Rodgers for resting some of his star men for this one. BIG MISTAKE.
Doing so would be like a snooker player passing up the invitation to get his eye in by potting some balls even though the frame is lost. What I’m saying is that Liverpool aren’t playing well and need as much time together as possible.
For us this is a perfect opportunity for Rodgers to pick something like his strongest side and allow them to gel some more. There is no point resting players who can’t perform as a team. They need gametime. The odd tweak is fine – Gerrard can have a rest – but Rodgers needs to keep the meat of his team on the park right now.
Furthermore, resting players could be counter productive. A weakened side may well end up going to extra time, which would make the squad more fatigued on aggregate.
We say, get a really strong team out, do the damage in the first hour and then start giving the players a rest. What Liverpool need most now is more confidence and more momentum. That only comes by playing together.
So here is our team for the Swansea game at Anfield on Tuesday, fitness permitting. Liverpool fans: thoughts please.
