Manchester United have had, what looked like on paper, a relatively straightforward start to the campaign in terms of fixtures. Many hoped that this would see United get a great start to the season.
But the club is already ten points behind Chelsea and five behind Manchester City. Manchester United fans would be forgiven for being worried that the slump may continue this season.
Yet the fans are full of hope and confidence. There is a gut feeling that Louis van Gaal is exactly the man for the job – that, while it’s taking time, the process is working and Manchester United are going in the right direction.
This comes largely from the tone and charisma of the manager. He’s exactly the self-assured and meticulous personality that Manchester United needed to fill the huge vacuum left by Fergie.
