In summer 2013 the talk around Manchester United was about David Moyes feverishly trying to sign Cesc Fabregas and Gareth Bale. The former spurned the chance to join the confusion.
As for Bale, well we all know that he moved to Real Madrid for £85.3m. At the age of 24 there was always the chance that Bale would one day come back to England and that day may be sooner than anyone had imagined.
If The Daily Star is to be believed then Manchester United are considering a swoop for the lad sooner rather than later as he is said to be less than enamoured by the way things are going for him this season.
The fabulous Star says:
United are planning another swoop, in the knowledge they are unlikely to be able to tempt Cristiano Ronaldo back to the north-west.
Sources in Spain claim Bale has not settled into the Madrid side – featuring new Galacticos Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez – this season.
The 25-year-old is seen to be neglecting his defensive duties, which is causing a concern for boss Carlo Ancelotti.
Gareth Bale will probably come back one day. But this story could well be complete pony. While Bale may not have been quite the success story that Ronnie was, he’s still an important tool in a potent attack. And very few footballers have or will ever compare favourably to the Portuguese legend.
And, in reality, would Manchester United really want him for that sort of money? They already have Di Maria on the left so Bale would have to play on the right as he does for Real Madrid. But that would surely further limit the opportunities for Adnan Januzaj, who needs game time at the top.
We feel that Januzaj has all the potential to be as good as Bale but perhaps without the blistering pace – such a vital commodity in today’s game – but the Belgian international compensates for this by having even better feet that the Welshman.
Bale would be a nice addition of course. But it surely won’t be happening just yet anyway. That said, when Bale does come back to England, Manchester United will probably be one of the interested parties.
At his age any fee would certainly smash United’s current transfer record which stands at £59.7m.
Let’s see Bale in action at Real Madrid. Manchester United fans: worth all that money?
