Louis’s team

Has been a lot of fuss made about Manchester United’s inability to sign a really top centre back this summer.

Indeed the defence has looked coltish and a little shaky in the first few games of the season.

And it was clear that Louis van Gaal wanted to sign a really experienced centre back in the summer, such as Thomas Vermaelen, to bring a calm head to proceedings.

But yet another thing that we really like, in ever-growing list of things that we like about the Dutchman, is that Van Gaal won’t settle for second best.

He’s not going to buy an average defender just because Manchester United lack defenders. He waits for top players to come along and then moves.

The top players that were available this summer were Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao. Although Manchester United were already strong up top Louis van Gaal bought them in because they make the team better.

This is the start of the process and when really top defenders become available we are sure that he will snap them up too.

We think it’s yet another compliment to this excellent manager that he has added first XI members to Manchester United’s squad this summer rather than players who may only make the bench and be used in emergency.

Van Gaal has already overseen a massive overhaul of the squad this summer and the team looks far better for it. 14 players have left and 6 have come in. So now we can really begin to view this as Van Gaal’s Manchester United.
