Manchester United have reportedly administered their number 11 jersey, worn with such credit and longevity by the legendary Ryan Giggs, who ended his playing career in the summer.
And the choice of the new number 11 will set tongues wagging. The Metro reports:
Adnan Januzaj appears to have been named as Ryan Giggs’ successor at Manchester United.
A photograph taken in United’s official megastore suggests that Januzaj will wear the number 11 shirt that Giggs, now acting as assistant to new manager Louis van Gaal, sported for much of his 23-year career at Old Trafford.
Many had hoped that Manchester United would bring in a big name to fill a very big shirt number.
But we believe that Januzaj is the perfect custodian for the number 11. He wore his usual number 44 jersey against Valencia but he’s one of the few players who has the imagination and skill to do the 11 justice.
After Giggsy retired the shirt had to go to someone with magic in his feet and the young Belgian has that. Januzaj will hope that he continues to improve after a breakthrough campaign last season in which he set the league alight with his dazzling footwork.
After gaining more experience at The World Cup there will be huge expectation on the shoulders of the lad this season but he looks as cool as a cucumber and Manchester United feel that he is a world star in the making.
By handing him the number 11 the club is demonstrating their great faith in the brilliant colt.
Let’s hope that he gets a lot more game time this season under a manager who is renowned for bringing youngsters up through the ranks.
Let’s see the lad in action. Manchester United fans: is it the right decision to give Januzaj the number 11?

Really don’t like the decision AT ALL.
While Januzaj is a promising young talent, he has not even established a position in the first team yet, and NOBODY should ever be handed a shirt number 11 or below unless they are a set fixture in the first XI. No exceptions.
Furthermore, despite the fact Januzaj played out on the left under Moyes, the boy is really a number 10-type player, and giving the number 11 to someone who won’t be playing as a winger seems weird to me.

I am of the conviction that Van Gaal have seen from hindsight that Januzaj has the talent to wear that iconic shirt vacated by Giggys. While his exploitable talents are not yet full bloomed, he has shown that, if given the chance, he will cause OT to explode on a night. He has won my nod.
