The signing that means Manchester United don’t need any more

Watching Manchester United’s pre-season tour has been nothing short of incredible.

You simply would not believe that this was the same squad that finished seventh in the league last season.

Ex-Manchester United manager David Moyes implied that root and branch changes were needed for the squad.

“We were fully focused and committed to the process of the fundamental rebuilding that is required for the senior squad. This had to be achieved whilst delivering positive results in the Barclays Premier League and the Champions League.

But after a few weeks with LvG in charge you could easily argue that Manchester United don’t need to sign any more players at all.

It’s not just the results that have been impressive for Manchester United on the preseason tour but the performance levels have been on a completely different plane to last season.

The passing and fluidity of movement has been sensational as Manchester United have regularly cut the opposition to ribbons. Unlike Moyes, LvG has put round pegs in round holes. Mata is thriving in a central position. Rooney and Welbeck look lethal as centre forwards. And, with no world class wingers available, LvG has gone for wing backs – hey presto – a fluid Manchester United.

At the start of the tour many would have suggested that Manchester United needed to get rid of up to 10 players and buy in five or six really top quality stars.

But every single player has responded positively to the signing of Louis van Gaal. They look hungry and willing to learn.

Tom Cleverley and Wilfred Zaha perhaps haven’t done that much for their cause during preseason. But apart from them, every player has impressed.

Manchester United got it badly wrong with the appointment of David Moyes last season but they seem to have redeemed themselves in one fell swoop with the addition of the Dutch Maestro.

Even if Manchester United don’t add another player this summer we think that they are still in with a great shout of winning the title with this brilliant new formation.

A central midfielder would be useful, but with Michael Carrick coming back and Darren Fletcher having such a great time in America, even this part of the team doesn’t feel particularly frail any more.

It’s a quite amazing turnaround and Louis van Gaal is proving that Sir Alex left a great squad behind. It just needed the right man in charge.

I would add nani to the list of non performers and I am beginning to wonder if ben amos will ever be good enough to play between the posts for the first team

Oh come on! It’s the post world cup, pre season, impress the new manager or I might well have to take a hefty paycut and move to Everton, Newcastle, Sunderland, Hull, Villa, Stoke, Southampton, West Ham, Palace, Leicester, QPR, Cardiff, Wigan, Palace or Swansea honeymoon period…Everyone is playing for their place…except for Nani and Anderson.
If United don’t get a commanding centre back, a d/m or box to box midfielder and cover for each wingback position they will struggle to finish in the top 4.

Agree so much with most of your comments – and your right a top defensive midfielder would not be amiss. Only thing I would differ with you is Welbeck, he is a striker who still struggles to get goals. Chicharito is a much better goal poacher than Welbeck, and he will always get us a goal when he gets the right balls played into him. He was very unlucky not to get two goals against Madrid, but he penetrated the Madrid defence, and sees and gets into the right positions. chicharito should in no way be sold. He’s like lightning in the box. If there is to be a place for Welbeck, it is not as striker. Van Gaal wants consistency and Danny is not a consistent goalscorer – sorry.

I think LVG should kick out Evans, Smalling, Rafael, Carrick, Cleverley, Anderson, Fellaini, Nani, Young, Valencia, Welbeck, Hernandes, Amos, Blackett, Keane twins, Lindegaard and Fletcher.
He should buy Vidal, Reus, Khedira, Valdes, Falcao, Kondogbia, Courtois, Miranda, Gaitan, Di maria, Hummels, Bender, Muller, Rafinha, Alves, Santos, Rodriguez, Modric, Shakiri, Grant and Ronaldo. He should give youth players chance like Januzaj or they waste their potential. If we dont sign 9 of these we wont win league
