Louis van Gaal bowled us all over on Thursday with his first Manchester United press conference, which displayed supreme confidence and composure.
Questions were asked about his transfer plans for the summer at Manchester United and the subject will remain the focus of the back pages until the window closes.
But as well as potentially signing 2 or 3 more world stars Manchester United will surely get rid of quite a few players from their squad this summer.
With no European involvement to contend with they possibly don’t need quite as deep a squad as they currently have and latest reports suggest that two forwards could be on their way.
The Metro says:
Big Sam keen on Manchester United duo Ashley Young and Wilfried Zaha
Young joined Manchester United in 2011 for around £16m and, although he flickered brightly to begin with, many fans have become tired of his cautious, unproductive ways on the wing. He’s clearly a good pro but arguably not quite up to scratch at this level. Time for him to move on we think.
Zaha was signed from Crystal Palace for £15m and has had few opportunities to impress at Old Trafford. We have all heard how LvG loves to bring youngsters through so Zaha, at 21, may see the pre-season tour as his last chance to impress the new boss.
Of the two we think that Zaha could have a future at Manchester United if he gets his head down and is offered some love by the new coach. He’s got blistering pace, great energy and has an eye for the unpredictable. And he certainly seems to know how to beat his man – a quality seemingly lacking in Young.
Let’s see Zaha’s highlights. Manchester United fans: get rid of both, either, or neither?

Sell Young, Nani and Zaha and bring in Marco Reus. This talented German is just the player we need to inject pace and consistency that we were missing last season!

Young, “arguably not up to scratch at this level.” Why is it arguable? He ranks along with Djemba Djemba, Massimo Taibi and Kleberson as another of Fergie’s masterpieces.
What is scary is that United are being linked with Di Maria who, “arguably”, runs up as many dead ends, dives as much, falls over as much and certainly misses as many chances. Yet for some reason people, especially Real Madrid people, think he’s worth 40 million euros. If he is, then so is Young.
