Liverpool Closing in on First Summer Signing says Broadsheet

Midfield dazzler

Speaking to a few Liverpool fans yesterday it appears as if the frost of disappointment regarding this season is thawing to leave optimism about the future.

What is crucial is that Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers does good business this summer. His transfer policy has been questioned by some with a few duds coming in aswell as the obvious successes.

One player who he’s seemingly hot on is Leverkusen’s Emre Can. The 20 year old German has played at every youth level for his country and is regarded as seriously hot property. The Telegraph reported Friday evening:

Liverpool are closing in on a £12 million deal for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Emre Can. Brendan Rodgers is hoping to secure Can as his first signing of an active summer in the transfer market.

The 20-year-old moved to Leverkusen, formerly managed by ex-Liverpool captain Sami Hyypia, last season from Bayern Munich for just £4.5 million. Munich placed a buy-back clause of their own but that can not be activated until next summer.

So the threat of Bayern muscling in does seem real but, with such an embarrassment of riches in midfield, Munchen would struggle to find game time for this brilliant colt. This could strengthen Liverpool’s hand.

Certainly The Telegraph thinks the deal is on. Can played 39 times for Leverkusen last season scoring 4 goals. He may be seen by Rodgers as the first step in the long process of replacing the almost irreplaceable Steven Gerrard.

Let’s take a look at the lad in action. Liverpool fans, is this the sort of profile of play that you should be identifying or are older more established players needed for The Champions League next season?
