Although another big win for Ryan Giggs this weekend will only increase the clamour for him to become permanent Manchester United manager, it seems ever more likely that Holland manager Louis van Gaal will take the job.
After a pitiful season at home and in Europe Manchester United seem loathe gamble on a manager with no experience and therefore The Dutchman will probably take the hot seat come August.
The Daily Mail suggests that his short list of summer arrivals is already well formed. And it includes some absolute bobby dazzlers for the next Manchester United vintage.
Louis van Gaal hopes to conclude negotiations with Manchester United in the next few days, aware that potential members of his coaching staff are under pressure to clarify their positions with current employers.
Another pressing issue for Van Gaal, it seems, is an assurance that transfer funds will extend to the signing of the three German players he thinks United need. As well as Bayern Munich’s Toni Kroos, Van Gaal wants Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus and Mats Hummels.
Mats Hummels – this guy would be a stupendous player for Manchester United. The German international is not only rock solid at the back but absolutely loves to come forward and add weight to the attack. Still only 25, and with 28 caps for Germnay, he has his best years ahead of him and Manchester United will have to pay a big fee for his services. Reports suggest that a bid in the region of £20m could be lodged.
Tony Kroos – The player’s agent recently stated that Kroos would be staying at Bayern Munich for another season at least. Nevertheless rumours persist about him coming to Manchester United in a massive deal. He is an excellent player but the £40 million quoted by many reports does seem on the expensive side. That said, Bayern Munich are certainly not in a position where they have to sell their best players so they can demand top whack for a man they don’t necessarily want to leave the club.
Marco Reus – The pick of the three players for our money. He’s a wonderfully talented attacking midfielder and winger who has an uncanny eye for goal. Ironically, aswell as being the best player on the list, he might also be the most gettable target for the new Manchester United manager. His price is being reported at upwards of £30 million.
Manchester United fans: would you be happy with these three additions?
