Manchester United: Miles off pace in league but Moyes has already signed two players with similar value to Brendan Rodgers’ entire net spend. So will defeat spell the end?

Crucial Eve for David Moyes

Does David Moyes gets sacked if Manchester United get soundly beaten tonight?

A lot of fans would certainly like him to get the boot and see a more modern style of manager replace him.

But Moyes may well have done just enough to get a stay of execution at Manchester United with a couple of half decent performances of late.

We reckon that, as long as Manchester United put in a valiant performance tonight, David Moyes will stay in charge beyond the end of the season.

Long-term we just worry about whether he has the charisma and tactical nous to take Manchester United forward during complex times for the club.

A superb article in The Guardian yesterday questioned the overall health of Manchester United and whether the current malaise runs even deeper and we suspect.

For us, the future depends on the quality of management from this point on for Manchester United. Have they got an iconic spearhead in the making AKA David Moyes? It doesn’t feel that way at the moment and with clubs like Manchester City and Chelsea able to outspend Manchester United they need a visionary more than ever.

At Liverpool Brendan Rodgers has created a title chasing team with a net spend of around £70m over two years. David Moyes has spent a similar amount on two players yet Manchester United are way of the pace in the title hunt.

We feel that every game provides a chance for David Moyes to strengthen his precarious position as Manchester United manager, with a tactical masterclass or even a brilliant, match winning substitution. But we just haven’t seen enough of those this season and Manchester United is not a club that will suffer defeat for too long before making changes.

Net spend is a silly argument, given the fact that Moyes only took over last summer.

Pool haven’t won anything yet …. only when Pool are playing CL football and in all domestic competitions will they, Rodgers and the silly net spend theory be truly tested… Rodgers will need a much deeper squad next season and that will cost money..
