Liverpool have been scoring goals like they are going out of fashion this season. And the highest scoring side regularly takes the trophies. But Brendan Rodgers is clearly a perfectionist and will concentrate on shoring up his slightly porous defence – a back 5 which has conceded 40 league goals thus – come May, whatever happens in the title chase.
We have said before that Micah Richards could be the perfect project for the Liverpool manager. Because we have learnt this season that Brendan Rodgers is an absolute master at getting the most out of players with undoubted ability, but who are struggling to make the grade at the highest level on a consistent basis.
You only need to look at Daniel Sturridge (squad player at Chelsea to nailed on England starter for the World Cup in little over a year) and Jordan Henderson (perceived by many as a shocking signing but now arguably one of the best midfielders in the league) to see his football alchemy at work at Liverpool.
The Daily Mail reports that Richards has decided to leave his long term employers at the end of the season:
Micah Richards has decided he must leave Manchester City at the end of the season to further his career.
Liverpool, West Ham United and Newcastle have all registered interest in the full-back as he plots his next move.
Richards draws polemic opinion. He looked like a world beater as a youngster but his career has stalled, particularly since Pablo Zabaleta joined Manchester City – Richards has made just two league starts in this campaign.
But we still think he could be destined for greatness. At just 25 he’s got all the attributes to be a top full back or centre back – namely pace, power and mobility – he just needs someone special to bring out his considerable strengths on a regular basis. We believe that Liverpool and Rodgers could be the perfect fit.
Let’s take a look at him in action.
