Liverpool are flying high right now. To beat Manchester United is fun. To beat Manchester 3-0 is even more fun. To beat Manchester United 3-0 on their own patch is almost too goo to be true. And to do it on the way to a possible league title is the stuff of dreams. Happy days then.

But the Liverpool boss has the bit between his teeth and he won’t be settling for this. This season, regardless of title glory, is a stepping stone to greater things – long term domination would be nice. To do this, Liverpool will have to strengthen their squad considerably. Because, beyond the first eleven, it looks a little thin. In fact Liverpool have done remarkably well to get where they are.

Rodgers’s thoughts have already turned to next season with reports that he’s keen on another striker:

Liverpool are plotting a £25million (30m Euro) summer swoop for Benfica striker Rodrigo.

The forward, 23, has been in fine form this season with 10 goals so far.

Reds’ boss Brendan Rodgers is monitoring Rodrigo closely this season and is ready to step up his interest in the summer to get his man.

The youngster was signed by Benfica after an unsuccessful stint at Real Madrid and has blossomed in Portugal. He’s scored 39 goals in just over 100 appearances for Benfica and has come to the fore of late. He has also represented Spain at every youth level, including a remarkable 15 goals in 16 games for the U21s.

Let’s have a look at the lad in action. Liverpool fans – keen?
