There are some amazing strikers plying their trade in Europe right now. But, for us, you can keep your Cavanis and your Faclaos. Great strikers of course.
But we have always felt that the best one available for The Premier League is Zenit striker Hulk. We say ‘available’ in a loose sense. He is contracted to his club for another couple of years. But rumours persist that he is keen on another switch.
The Metro today quotes an agent who reckons he could be a Premier League player by autumn.
Shandor Varga told the Izvestia newspaper that Hulk is ready to push for a transfer away when the window re-opens, with English his most likely destination.
‘Despite the huge transfer fee required to sign Hulk, don’t rule out that he will move to one of the top clubs in Europe this summer,’ Varga said.
The obvious idea is to link him with Chelsea. Chelsea need someone to put the ball in the onion bag and this guy certainly fits the bill for a Mourinho side. He’s as strong as an ox and would be our bet in any ‘break the net’ contest. But he also has wonderful feet for such a big lad. In that respect he reminds us of Chelsea’s ex-star striker Didier Drogba.
Liverpool already have two top strikers and you would imagine that they would want to concentrate their budget on other areas this summer. But what a statement of intent it would be to the rest if Brendan Rodgers broke the bank to get this lad in.
Liverpool seem to be maintaining the delightful philosophy, under Brendan Rodgers, of simply trying to outscore the opposition. Who cares about the odd goal conceded when you are watching high scoring football like this? Not us, that’s for sure. And a player of Hulk’s ability could surely be shoe-horned into that attack.
Luis Suarez happy right now and buying hulk would only make him happier. But if Suarez did leave then you would have a ready made replacement of a similar standard. If he stays then Liverpool have the best forward line in the league with Suarez and Sturridge buzzing around the more centrally positioned Hulk.
Let’s take a look at him in action. Liverpool fans would you spend the lions share of the transfer kitty on this guy or have we just got on the sauce too early this Friday?
