Manchester United have been linked with midfielders left, right and centre. This will continue until a super player is bought for the engine room. In fact, it could well turn out to be more than one player for the engine room this summer.
Because Manchester United need to freshen up that area of the pitch considerably. Micheal Carrick is still a top player but, at 32, he may begin to wane before long.
Marouane Fellaini still has much to prove and hasn’t done the business at all in his fledgeling Manchester United career.
So a box-to-box type AND a creative player could arrive this summer.
In terms of the latter, reports today suggest that United are tracking a youngster.
Manchester United are tracking Barcelona’s emerging midfield talent Rafa Alcantara.
The 21-year-old, commonly known as Rafinha, has impressed this season while
on loan at Celta Vigo and has been tipped to be part of the Barca first-team squad next season.
The Manchester Evening News reports:
After missing out on Bayern Munich midfield star Thiago Alcantara over the summer, United are considering a swoop for a man who can be considered the next-best thing – Thiago’s brother, Rafa.
Sporting Lisbon have told Manchester United that William Carvalho will cost them £37.5m. Ed Woodward will offer 2p and see where it gets him, before turning his attention to signing Barcelona’s Rafa Alcântara, younger brother of Thiago
He’s obviously been in the shade of his older brother who has made a big move to Bayern Munich. But he looks like a top player in the making and one who could perhaps add creativity and daring to the Manchester United midfield.
At 21 you would imagine he is primed for a spot in the Barcelona side. But, as we have seen with so many young talented kids from the Catalan club, if they don’t quite make the grade they regularly look elsewhere for game time and to further their careers.
Let’s take a look at Rafa in action. Manchester United fans, is he a good solution for centre of the park?
