Managing United better in 10 easy steps

David Moyes

I could manage United better than this guy

It’s painful watching Manchester United right now. There is no unity, no rallying cries from the players and no fluidity on the pitch.

Football management isn’t rocket science but you need three main qualities in abundance – good tactical sense, a keen eye for a player and excellent man-management skills. We really need to see more from David Moyes in all these departments if Manchester United are going to avoid the same fate as Liverpool in the 90s.

Here is what, we believe, needs to be done to get Manchester United firing again:

Play Januzaj through the middle – the one player who is performing to his capabilities right now but David Moyes has left him out on the wing unable to get involved in the game for long spells. Januzaj isn’t going to be a winger long term anyway. He doesn’t have the pace. With Rooney and RvP out surely Januzaj has to play at number ten to bring much needed spark to Manchester United. It’s plain as day. He’s great every time he’s on the ball but that’s not nearly enough from wide positions.

Play Zaha – looks like he’s going out on loan. It’s madness. Zaha may lack finesse right now but he would offer dynamism, pace and put defences on the back foot with his dribbling. Considering how badly the other wingers have done this season we simply can’t believe Zaha hasn’t been given more opportunities.

Cleverley out – We don’t want to start blaming individuals. Cleverley works hard and loves the club. But so do all the fans! That doesn’t mean they should play in the heart of the midfield. GET RID.

Anderson in – in the absence of any other midfield options Anderson should surely get the nod ahead of the aforementioned Cleverley. Anderson couldn’t hit a cow’s arse with a banjo so he probably won’t add goals. But he’s a damn sight better than the other options. Keeps the ball moving and likes to run at defences. Also has a far better range of passing than the ghost-like Cleverley. His fitness may be questionable but at least give him an hour in each game.

Formation – Manchester United are getting overrun in midfield and haven’t got enough natural quality out wide (assuming Zaha continues to be overlooked). With RvP and Rooney rarely fit at the same time this season Moyes should have tried a 4-3-3 with Januzaj and Kagawa either side of a striker in a narrower formation.

Kagawa in – Manchester United can’t keep the ball but ever since Kagawa ate too many crisps and pop he’s been back on the bench. Surely he needs to be in the team? Manchester United desperately need his super technique and ball retention.

Back Room Staff – They sit passively in the dugout and can often look heavily tranquilised. I was never the biggest Micky Phelan fan but even he would get involved pitch side from time to time. Moyes doesn’t look to be getting any inspiration from his coaching staff. GET RED NEV IN to lift the spirits and offer some genuine tactical inspiration. Surely he would come back to Manchester United in a heartbeat if asked.

Training methods – ‘Over training’ RvP? That hasn’t worked has it?

Signings – We know it’s hard to bring players in in January but this is where Moyes needs to prove his worth to the club. He’s desperate for players like Luke Shaw and Ross Barkley. Moyes needs to pull off a real transfer coup in January instead of simply conceding defeat.

Start Enjoying it again man! – Stop annoying the players who have made the club great (Vidic, Rio, Evra) and start smiling again. The veterans still have lots to offer and encouraging a sense of unity is the key moving forward. We hear that Vidic might leave. Rio doesn’t like the last minute team sheets and Evra surely isn’t feeling the love leave because Moyes is looking at every left-back with two legs. Instead of arguably alienating these players Moyes needs to tap into their vast experience and winning mentality. We are talking about TITANS OF THE GAME HERE Moyesy….

Manchester United fans – feel free to add to the debate. What is Moyes doing wrong at United?

That was a good one. I agree with you 111%. Moyes should give the players the motivation they need. BRING PHELAN AND RENE BACK THEN LET NEVILLE AND I-DON’-KNO’-WHO GO.
