QPR are nestled in just behind the two front runners in The Championship at the mid-way point of the season. The smart money would surely go an an immediate return to The Premier League for QPR under the canny tutelage of the underrated Harry Redknapp. But the boss and the fans alike will want to avoid the agony of a play-off finish.
QPR have the best defensive record in the division with only 14 goals conceded so far this season. But, by contrast, they aren’t scoring prolifically. No team in the top half of The Championship has scored fewer goals than QPR, who have 26.
Most good teams are built from the back and QPR are solid in that respect. But they could do with a lot more goals in order to propel them up into those two automatic promotion places come May.
Some players seem to follow certain managers and that has regularly been the case with Harry Redknapp and Peter Crouch. The Stoke striker has played at Portsmouth, Southampton, Tottenham and, indeed QPR in 2000, when he scored 10 goals in 42 appearances.
Crouch has never been a prolific striker (170 goals in 565 career appaearances) but he’s scored goals for club and country on a regular basis and would certainly add quality to the QPR promotion push.
QPR are now favourites with bookmaker SkyBet to sign ‘Two Metre Peter’ at odds of 4/1. While there has been little hype so far about a move for Crouch in January we could easily see Harry pulling off a coup and bringing in the England international.
Let’s see him in action. QPR fans, could this deal happen?
