It feels as if David Moyes has prioritised the Capital One Cup over The FA Cup – which is total madness. He rested 4 regulars (Evra, De Gea, Carrick and Vidic) against Swansea and now the major domestic cup is out of Manchester United’s grasp for another year.
We feel that if Manchester United had won the FA Cup this season then Moyes would have been granted due respect and more time to build his team. But surely a league cup win wouldn’t be enough for the season to be deemed a success?
If Manchester United do overcome Sunderland the likelihood is that they will face the scorchingly hot Manchester City in the spring – hopefully, by then, some form and key players will have returned to the fold.
As for Sunderland, this game will provide a welcome distraction from their worrying Premier League position and the chance to take another chunk out of the ailing champions of England.
Anyway, it’s one game at a time for Manchester United and Moyes right now. Here are the teams for tonight’s clash at The Stadium of Light.
Sunderland: Mannone, Bardsley, Alonso, Brown, O’Shea, Larsson, Cattermole, Ki, Giaccherini, Borini, Fletcher
