The jury remains out on whether Mark Hughes is the man for the job at Stoke. It looked as if he was moulding a more attractive, attacking side when he first took the job and the brilliant defeat of Chelsea at the weekend will have gained him more admirers.

But we will get to see a better picture of his plans during the January transfer window when he will surely invest.
Stoke are known for having a solid defence but having conceded more than they have scored this season it’s difficult to know where the main weakness lies in the side.

But goals win you games and Stoke are reportedly in for a top forward in the winter window. The Guardian today followed up the story after The Mirror said last night:

Stoke are eyeing a January move for Holland striker Luuk de Jong – and have not given up hope of landing Juan Agudelo.

Potters scouts watched De Jong, who was in the Dutch Euro 2012 squad, in Borussia Moenchengladbach’s weekend win over Schalke.

The 23-year-old was a substitute and has played just 71 minutes so far this season after a fall-out with boss Lucien Favre and is desperate for a January move to boost his World Cup hopes.

With 39 goals in 76 games for Twente, before moving to Germany, the player has already scored three times in seven international appearances for Holland. At just 23 years of age he could turn out to be a really elite player. So Stoke would do very well to snap him up now if he is indeed available.

Let’s take a look at the player action. Stoke fans, does this guy boil your potatoes?
