Manchester United send scouts to watch trio – reports

We are still of the opinion that the Manchester United defence is okay

The transfer speculation about Manchester United is only going to intensify between now and the new year.

After having his fingers seriously burnt in his first transfer window at Manchester United, boss David Moyes has kept his cards close to his chest, about any further investments.

But it seems clear that he wants to strengthen his current squad and January may prove, if not the perfect, then the prudent time to do so.

Portuguese media outlet A Bola has reported that Manchester United sent scouts to the Estadio da Luz over the weekend to watch Benfica play. More specifically they went to see three players who have been linked with the club for some time.

A Bola reports that Manchester United were there to see Nicolas Gaitan, Ezeqiuel Garay and Nemanja Matic.

The report says that Sir Alex Ferguson was originally interested in these players but that David Moyes may also be keen.

We are still of the opinion that the Manchester United defence is okay. With Ferdinand and Vidic getting on, Manchester United may need to look at that area at the end of the season, but it’s not an immediately pressing concern.

The midfield needs more attention and that’s where Matic comes in. As most of you will know the player was at Chelsea for a couple of years but only got two appearances during that time. Since he left for Benfica he has been on fire. But he isn’t a goalscoring midfielder and we feel that Manchester United are most in need of just that that.
