Manchester United had to hold onto another narrow lead from the second minute of The Champions League tie against Sociedad on Wednesday. But if the scoreline was unsatisfying the manner of the performance was altogether more encouraging than other recent games.
Manchester United looked something like their old selves again. They were hungry, coherent and attack minded. They had countless chances to extend their lead but were unlucky on the night. One of the keys to a better performance was the presence of Shinji Kagawa. Many Manchester United fans have screaming for him to be picked more often. On Wednesday he simply made Manchester United a more skillful outfit.
His touch and ball retention is brilliant. He works hard and is always looking to attack. He needs to improve his finishing but he is comfortably one of the best eleven at Manchester United and he needs to be picked if this team is to be successful this year.
One would hope that now he is up to speed in terms of fitness, he can get a run in the side, because Manchester United are a much better team with him in it.
So this is how we think Manchester United might line up on Saturday. We would like to see Kagawa take Fellaini’s place in the middle but think that United boss David Moyes will remain faithful to his new signing. Let us know your thoughts.
Manchester United: De Gea, Rafael, Evans, Ferdinand, Evra, Kagawa, Fellaini, Carrick, Valencia, Rooney, RvP
