Arsenal still favourites with bookmaker to sign midfielder

If all the rumours are to be believed Arsenal will start the new season with a forward line of Rooney and Higuain. It’s a nice thought but not all of the reported deals will come off.

One that does seem feasible is Fellaini to Arsenal. He was strongly linked with Manchester United as soon as it became clear that David Moyes would be the new boss at Old Trafford. But, with Micheal Carrick still doing an excellent job in the holding midfield role, one suspects that the new Manchester United manager will look at other areas of the team first.
Moyes may still go for the adaptable middle man but Arsenal have, of late, been installed as favourites with SkyBet for the signature of the Belgian.

After the initial rumours about Fellaini some areas of the media suggested, without direct quotes, that Arsenal weren’t willing to pay the reported £23m release clause in his contract. The Daily Express said last week:

Marouane Fellaini’s chances of a dream move to Arsenal are in trouble after the club indicated they are unwilling to meet the £23million release clause for the player.

‘Dream’ moves aside, Arsenal have money to spend and need more characters in the team – players who will drag their team to victory with a goal against the run of play or a saving tackle when backs are against the wall. This quality seems to have been the difference between Arsenal and the rest of the elite over the last few years – the ability to win ugly.

Fellaini seems like the sort of player who could add some steel to an Arsenal side that is so close to completion but still lacks the final pieces in the jigsaw. They don’t need another 8 players. They need 2 or 3 top players.

Arsenal fans, would Fellaini take your team to the next level?

Yes he would fit right in. Look at what people was saying about Arteta. That he wouldn’t cope at Arsenal. Now look at the guy! Fellaini can score as we seen at the beginning of last/current season. He can also defend as his preferred position is in front of the defence. He would be an excellent signing for the club. Rooney and Higuian? WOW!!! Now THAT would be a deadly partnership! Thinking of them 2 in the red and white wiping defences aside and bagging us the precious points is making me all excited. BUT, only one is coming and it’s the better one. Wenger finally showing he can spend money as good as he can save it? It’s looking that way so far. Hope he brings in 1 more quality player. Not a striker unless he’s going back to our title winning formation – 4-4-2.

    Damn right he would
We already have a great squad of players and I am in total agreement with your article. All we need is 2 or 3 top quality players. Higuain and Fellaini are ESSENTIAL plus maybe one other. But just those 2 will put us right up there in with a shout for all major honours

I can not see betting odds for Higuain anywhere.

Skybet seems to have removed them, maybe it just confirms that the deal is completed.

Skybet have suspended betting because the odds of Higuain coming to Arsenal wouldn’t win you a penny. He’s on his way to The Emirates! People say “I will believe it when i see it on Arsenal.com” but, the fact is, the story is everywhere and I’m sure you will see it in other places before Arsenal.com. A mate of mine works at The Emirates and rumours are is that he will be signing way before Arsenal go on their Asia tour. A fee has been agreed and personal terms are just being ironed out. The deal is done – just without official confirmation. It is definitely safe to say we have the perfect replacement for RVP coming to The Emirates.

No Fellaini and no rooney. There is better than fellaini out there for the same price or less and who wants a spoilt little wanker like rooney to come along and put his two cents in. No NO No

It’s about time Arsenal get some top quality player. Do you think MU could have sustained their epl dominance without spending large sums of money. That is why red faced shd manage Wigan aand see whether he can win the ep with the club’s resources.
Nowadys winning trophies goes to the clubs with large wallets. The days when Forest/Av or even Wolves in the 50s are over. They will be history unlikely to be repeated .

Anyone who says falani is not fit for arsenal is not an arsenal fan, he is the player we need . Set play arsenal are no longer scoring goals from those areas and falani is very good in such, secondly to defend any set play he can do that too, i want to see him with red and white this season

Fellaini is the player we need more than any other player at Arsenal, so a resounding yes please, he would be my top priority.
If we got Higuain, Fellaini, Begovic & Ashley Williams, I would be extremely happy

Alaba is apparently unhappy (rumours) at Bayern because he is not getting a chance to play in the midfiled, also cheaper and younger option than Fellaini. He has a better passing rate than Arteta and wins duels at par with Koscielny. Having said that Fellaini is proven in premier league and would definately IMPROVE Arsenal.
