It must be an emotional time for Tottenham fans. While some areas of the press speculate that PSG want to take Tottenham manager AVB and star player Gareth Bale to their ridiculously wealthy club this summer, others opine that AVB will stay put and part with a large shed load of cash to strengthen his already impressive squad. Let’s concentrate on the latter rumours shall we?
Tottenham are a club that always looks just a couple of players short of a title challenging team. But providing they manage to hold on to Gareth Bale the great pretenders might just finally make that leap this time around. Speculation has constantly linked David Villa with a move abroad this summer and London seems a possible destination. The Mirror’s John Cross re-iterated these reports at the weekend with another story about how AVB has put the Spanish striker at the top of his wanted list of summer targets.
Even at 31 the striker is drawing interest from all quarters of Europe and, with a goal scoring record like his, it’s easy to see why. He has not only scored lots of goals (108 in 166 for Valencia and 33 in 77 for Barca) but he has scored them in a competitive league and in big European games. Add his 53 in 88 for Spain and you have a top drawer striker. The big question is whether, after serious injury a year ago, Villa will ever be the player he once was. The mooted £10m is a lot of cash for a veteran but even 15 goals would be deemed a good return from a new squad member.
With Arsenal reportedly also in the hunt and guaranteed of Champions League football next season Tottenham face a fight to snare the striker.
The same report also suggests that Brazil’s Paulinho is edging closer to a deal with Tottenham. The Corinthians midfielder is remianing tight-lipped about the move but has revealed that his agent is in London:
“It’s true my agent is in England at the moment, but I don’t know anything else,” said the 24-year-old.
“I am certain he will tell me what’s going on soon.”
Let’s have a look at the midfield beauty in action shall we? Yes, let’s!
