It’s been a fairly quiet summer for Manchester United so far on the transfer front. While Liverpool spend away and Manchester City look to secure Isco after already agreeing deals for Jesus Navas and Fernandinho, David Mayes has been taking in a bit of sun before joining Manchester United officially on July 1st. Manchester United have of course signed Uruguayan full back Guillermo Varela, but the big money has yet to change hands.
Manchester United fans have been screaming for years about the need for a really top-quality creative midfielder to replace the retiring genius Paul Scholes. Cesc Fabregas has been the name on most newspapers’ back pages, relating to Manchester United this summer, but the midfielder has again asserted the point that he wants to stay at Barcelona. Fabregas would have been the perfect signing for Manchester United to fill that hole but he seems intent on staying in Spain.
So the story hunters will have to move elsewhere and the new favourite amongst the gossip columns is another Barcelona player, Thiago Alcantara. The brilliant 22 year old isn’t getting much of a look in at Barcelona, with Cesc Fabregas, Iniesta and Xavi currently controlling the midfield berths.
The Catalan newspaper Sport.es has reported that The Spaniard has decided to try his luck elsewhere, in the search for regular first team football.
Thiago Alcantara insists his desire to continue his career at another club. The meeting with Tito Vilanova, days before joining with the selection to start the European under-21, did not appease the expectations of a player who is convinced that only progress if you have more minutes on most significant games.
soccersweep believes that Manchester United should have three priorities this summer. 1) Keep Wayne Rooney 2) Buy a winger and 3) fill that creative midfield role with a little magician who never gives the ball away and sets up chances on a plate for the brilliant supporting cast at his disposal. Whether Alcantara is the man to do that remains to be seen but you can make your own minds up about the lad as he plays for Spain U21s in the final of the youth Championships in Israel at 1700 GMT. we all know that alcantara is one of ultimate summer target but considering chelsea city bayern etc appearing & bidding war inevitable it is safe to count Man utd out..O U T !!!
