It certainly wouldn’t be the first time that we have been led astray by Chelsea transfer rumours. Only a couple of days ago the talk was of Jose Mourinho targeting Stevan Jovetic and Edin Dzeko for his new look striker force. The name Edinson Cavani will also be very familiar to the Chelsea faithful.
But The Mirror today suggests that the latest target for Mourinho’s Chelsea is that Brazilian beefcake of a guy, Hulk. He only moved to Zenit on September 3rd last year for a fee of around 40M Euros, but there have been regular stories about him suffering racist abuse since he joined the club and he may well look to come back to more cosmopolitan shores this summer.
Let’s make no mistake about it. Of all the strikers that have been linked with Chelsea in the last year or so, this one should get the fans’ hearts thumping hardest. Hulk is most definitely the real deal. Carved from the same rock as Didier Drogba, Hulk manages to somehow marry inordinate strength with some unbelievably flashy footwork. He could definitely mix it with the hardest Premier League defenders, can score you a goal from anywhere in the opposition half and also has the deftest of touches when necessary.
It’s not the first time Chelsea have been linked with player – as The Mirror points out:
Ironically, the Blues were very close to buying Hulk last summer but could not agree a deal with his then-club Porto, who were demanding £40m.
Hulk joined Zenit instead but the mega-rich Russians, believed to have paid in excess of £50m for his services, are already looking to sell and cut their losses after the 26-year-old’s difficult first season.
With all the tiki taka going on in midfield with Hazard, Mata and Oscar, Chelsea and Mourinho may well look for a bit of a bully to add balance to the books. There may or may not be substance to this particular story but soccersweep thinks that he could be the best fit of all potential strikers for this Chelsea side. Let’s have a look at the brilliant Brazilian in action shall we? Yes, let’s. What do you Chelsea fans think about Hulk to Stamford Bridge?
