Baines linked again while odds remain short on midfielder signing

So work this one out if you can. David Moyes gets the dream job of managing Manchester United and then what does he do? He buggers off on holiday! While the cream of Europe’s talent continues to get scooped up left, right and centre, Moyesy is sunning himself in some tropical climb. We are of course talking with tongue firmly placed in cheek. The former Everton manager deserves all the rest he can get because, after officially joining Manchester United on July 1st, he might not get another hol for a while.

But, wherever the new Manchester United gaffer may be, stories have once again surfaced today about Leighton Baines following Moyes to Old Trafford. We think that Evra is still The Don at left-back and would sooner see the money spent elsewhere but there is no doubting the quality of Baines. The Daily Mail states that

‘With doubts persisting over Patrice Evra’s future at Old Trafford, United are searching for a top-class left back.’

Having already played under Moyes, Baines would be the obvious alternative and is well and truly in his prime. Whether he has the pace and engine of Evra remains to be seen but his delivery is unquestionably top-class.

That one should be resolved soon but the future of Marouane Fellaini is also up in the air. One of the stand-out performers in The Premier League over the last couple of seasons, Fellaini has drawn reported interest from Chelsea for some time. Indeed, he would appear to be a good fit for a defensive midfield role under new Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho. But SKYbet still have Manchester United as favourites for his signature, at odds of 1/2.

Both are obviously good players but would they be top additions to Manchester United or Chelsea? Let us know your thoughts.
