It could well be typical paper-punting, mischief-mkaing on the part of the tabloids but Marca today reports that Manchester United have already made a down payment for the services of the long-term Chelsea target and white hot Colombian marksman Radamel Falcao. The striker, who sits third in La Liga scoring charts behind Ronnie and Messi, has 46 goals in 60 games for Atletico Madrid.
Marca said of the transfer
“a down payment has reportedly been made” (Falcao is) “just a step away from United”.
They continue “the same thing happened two seasons ago when David de Gea left the Vicente Calderón to become a Red Devil”.
If there is truth in this story, the immediate question on the lips of every Manchester United fan will be, where does this leave Wayne Rooney? Unless Sir Alex Ferguson plans to play Rooney in the midfield full-time from next season (and what a central midfielder he would be) then surely there is no room for all of them. Of course, any team would love to have Rooney, RvP and Falcao in their squad but, with Manchester derby highlighting so starkly the need for Manchester United to invest heavily in their midfield, it seems improbable that Fergie would the majority of the summer transfer kitty on another striker.
This worry aside, Falcao would be a marvellous player for Manchester United. If United lack anything up front these days it’s a player with pace to burn. Rooney doesn’t quite have the acceleration of old and RvP’s game has never been based on ground speed.
Chelsea have been strongly linked with Falcao for over a year but these reports suggest that Manchester United don’t plan to lose out to Chelsea this summer as they did last year when Eden Hazard chose Chelsea over Manchester United.

Ashley young has been worse. Get rid of ashly young Valencia Anderson nani and defiantly Welbeck who has scored 2 goals in 34 games. Get Rodriguez and ronaldo in and we are unbeatable. midlfield is excellent with carrick being outstanding this season he is a true man united player with the greats. Cleverly is improving looks promising. Hernandez should stay because he is the new baby face assassin and he is an excellent strike.
Tranfer market looking forward to it!
