Liverpool

Out of contract! Will Liverpool sign this young star?

As the season enters its final furlong and trophies are polished, before being administered to the few lucky winners, the next part of the crazy football cycle begins – namely transfers. With more money in the game than ever before, it seems harder than ever to get a bargain, or fight off the competition for a sought after star.

Star of the future?

One of the players who will draw great attention this summer is England’s rising star, Tom Ince. Son of ex-Manchester United powerhouse Paul, Tom seemed set for a move to Liverpool in the winter window. He was, of course, on Liverpool’s books before joining Blackpool in August 2011. But, such has been his learning curve since the move, that rumours have snowballed about a return to Anfield. Blackpool are in an unfortunate position as they haven’t managed to renew the contract of arguably one of the best young players in the country. The club does apparently have an option to extend the contract for a 3rd year but, despite the fact that his dad now manages Blackpool, it seems likely that the player won’t want to stay beyond this summer. Ince’s current contract expires at the end of June.

Summer transfer

So competition for the signature of Ince should be fierce. Manchester United were also rumoured to be keen on the player a year or so ago but their interest seems to have cooled, despite the fact that they have lacked a natural left-footer since Ryan Giggs lost his pace. Perhaps dad Paul would prefer his son to play at Liverpool rather than Manchester United, where he suffered a rather acrimonious end to a brilliant spell at the club.

Manchester United may re-ignite their interest and one would imagine Liverpool will be back in for Ince, who has had another decent season at Blackpool. He looks well worth a punt, especially at the bargain price he seems destined to go for.
