The man who has made Liverpool tick for the last couple of years has delivered a hammer blow to the club, and the fans, by declaring that he would be open to offers from other clubs wishing to employ him. He told The Metro:
‘If Bayern Munich makes an offer I would certainly be willing to listen and think about it,’
The Uruguyan, who has scored 33 goals in 70 appearances, and at times carried Liverpool offered some hope to the fans by also stating that:
‘It doesn’t mean I will definitely leave, it just means that I will not automatically reject other clubs.’
But it really does feel that this could be the beginning of the end for Suarez at Liverpool. Suarez and his representatives aren’t stupid. They totally understand the impact that this message will have. Some would say that this is a deliberate ploy to put Suarez on the market in good time for a summer move.
It’s really bad news for Liverpool fans but there is little loyalty in football these days and Suarez doesn’t have the strength of ties to the club as someone like Steven Gerrard, who grew up in the city. Suarez has given his all to Liverpool but perhaps feels he should be playing at a higher level. Whilst Brendan Rodgers is doing good long term work on behalf of Liverpool, Suarez wants success now. Maybe now he feels that he is at the wrong club to realise his lofty ambitions.
At 26 he isn’t too far from his last big contract and he clearly wants to be at a club that he feels can compete for the top prizes each year. Bayern are patently in the running but Manchester City, Chelsea, PSG and the Spanish giants will surely all be interested. We could easily imagine Suarez succeeding David Villa at Barcelona.
So Liverpool fans, how do you feel about the Suarez situation?
