Another day, another inexpensive duo linked with Arsenal. Most of us believe that Arsenal need to strengthen that spine – to add some no nonsense team players to the bewitching array of technical talent in the squad. You know, people who you just wouldn’t mess around with, for fear of your whole family suffering.

Well, the media seem to have found another potential brute for the centre of Arsenal’s defence. Fernando Amorebieta is a 27 year old Atletic Bilbao player whose contract expires at the end of the season. Apparently Italy’s top three teams are also after the player, who comes from Venezuela, so Arsenal will probably have to offer more than the current tenner a week wage cap if they want to beat off the competition. Let’s take a quick look shall we?

The other player being linked with Arsenal this AM is Eintracht Frankfurt central midfielder Sebastian Rode. The Guardian reports that the highly rated 22 year old is also being tracked by Germany’s big boys Bayern Munchen and Dortmund Dortmund so it’s another one that may well go to the wall. But he does look like a player and would potentially add a bit of much needed mettle to Arsenal in the middle of the park – a midfield which is honoured by the presence of Cazorla and Wilshere but needs a real nutter in there to put his foot in when the going gets tough. Abou Diaby is a super player and could be moulded into this type but he seems destined to spend too much time on the treatment table. Arsene Wenger can’t afford to sit back and hope that Diaby outgrows the injuries. He needs to buy a top defensive midfielder and, if Diaby does return to consistent fitness, he can be brought back into the team gradually.
