Arsenal in for sensational trio – reports

The papers are abuzz with stories of how Arsenal will go on the attack to defend their reputation in the summer. With Arsene Wenger beginning to resemble a mad man, surely it’s time for the Arsenal to loosen the purse strings and bring in some real quality.

The Daily Mail speculates, with a typical absence of quotes by way of endorsement, that Dortmund prodigy Mario Gotze is the main man for Arsenal’s rebuilding process. The young German playmaker does seem to fit the style that Wenger loves. He’s impish, technically astute and quick. He could loosely be termed an attacker but can play in various positions. soccersweep thinks that he would be an excellent addition to Arsenal but, with Dortmund flying high and commanding audiences of 80,000 for home matches, I doubt it will be easy to prise him away from Germany.

Pepe Reina is another name that is floating around in relation to Arsenal. Some say that he is in terminal decline at Liverpool and others simply feel he needs a change of scenery. The Mirror suggests that The Gunners might be interested.  Despite some high profile blunders of late, he would definitely be a good signing for Arsenal, who have lacked a real presence in between the sticks for far too long.

Among the plethora of other names being thrown about is seemingly long term target Stevan Jovetic. The Fiorentina striker has a ratio of about 1 in 3 for club and a goal every 2 games for his country. He is a striker of the sort of pedigree that Arsenal no longer seem to have in their ranks since the acrimonious departure of RvP. Podolski and Giroud are solid but seem to lack that magical bit of je ne sais quoi that we have come to expect from Arsenal forwards down the years.

Whoever Arsene fancies, surely it’s time for a splurge at The Emirates?
