Arsenal: Nacho looks tasty

No of course I don’t think I was the first to coin the term in this cheesy title. But it’s still fresh enough and I love nachos. So back off.

Moving to football matters, the protagonist of this pathetically un-pithy punchline already looks the part. You might say that Ignacio “Nacho” Monreal Eraso has all the ingredients to become a hot acquisition for Arsenal. Someone who adds so much spice to the left flank that he will have the opposition shitting themselves for days afterwards.

Stoke are a good side but didn’t offer much going forward during Monreal’s Arsenal debut at the weekend. Therefore we weren’t awash with illustrations of his defensive capabilities. Going forward, however, he looked very promising. Too many pacey wide players don’t have enough skill and too many skillful fullbacks don’t have enough speed. Monreal seems, at first glance, to have a decent helping of both.

The Spaniard got forward at every opportunity – his link up play with The Ox was excellent – and he put in one sumptuous cross, in the second half, which Giroud so nearly connected with. He even had a dig at goal with his weaker right foot, from the edge of the area. The cheeky bugger. He’s got balls. I’ll give him that.

He’s a graceful attacking full back, light on his feet and assertive. There is a calm decisiveness in his overall play and, at 26, he’s already reached maturity. He is a player for the here and now – another element of the signing that will please the fans.

So soccersweep thinks that the lad could well become a firm favourite at Arsenal, therefore limiting the immediate chances of yet another young Englishman, Kieran Gibbs.

Oh well. Gibbs can comfort himself with the fact he’s on anywhere up to £30k a week, has his pick of the capital’s stunning models, be they cars, women or jewel encrusted, comically oversized headphones and he only has to turn up for a kick about a few times a week in return, before heading back to his toasty, gismo laden home which probably talks to him like Kit Car from EFF’in Knightrider.

Me? Bitter?
