Ok, it’s certainly not the first time that Victor Wanyama’s name has been mentioned in relation to Manchester United and, if the big lad doesn’t leave Celtic this January, then nor will it be the last.
I dont think it’s a wild exaggeration to say that everybody wants The Big Lad. Sure, it’s an exaggeration – Sussex County Cricket Club don’t want The Big Lad for example – but it’s not a ‘wild’ exaggeration. The Big Lad has certainly drawn covetous glances from many of Europe’s top teams after some hum dinging performances for Celtic this season – not least in the Champions League.
If Tom Huddlestone is ‘The Wardrobe’ then Victor Wanyama could perhaps be ‘The Welsh Dresser’ of The Premier League. A sensational specimen of a man whose inordinately sized frame somehow still allows him to be one of the most athletic and energetic players in any team for which he dons the XXXL shirt.
If you were having a youthful kick about in the park with Victor you would probably go home after ten minutes saying ‘it’s not fair mum. He’s taking the fun out of it. He’s just too big. He wins EVERY second ball mum. HE’S RUINING EVERYTHING!’
Rumours abound that Fergie will buy one more player for Manchester United in the winter window and The Big Lad may be that man. A price tag of £10m wont put The Scot off but, with Fergie seemingly opting for a new tiki-taka style midfield with Cleverley, Kagawa and Carrick, does he really want a Welsh dresser in there too? Well, The Independent reports that Fergie personally scouted The Big Lad in Celtic’s victory over Dundee United on Wednesday.

Celtic fan here. The Big Lad will be a good signing for United, I’m pretty certain it will happen but probably not until the summer. Fergie doesn’t need The Big Lad at the moment and would likely gain more by leaving him to win a couple of trophies and, more importantly, sample some more top level action against Juventus.
The Big Lad’s phyisical presence is glaring – but often The Big Lad’s technical ability is overlooked. He’s fantastic close control for a big lad which, coupled with his sizeable frame, allows him to ghost past players at times. Goals are an added bonus to The Big Lad’s game; he’s capable of zipping them in from 25 yards or smashing them in with his head (see barca).
The potential is there. Fergie will buy him for £12million in the summer and who better to oversee The Big Lad’s jump to the big time?

Victor wanyama is a right defensive midfield to share the position with michael C.

it will be a fantastic signing 4 man utd especially now that utd don’t have a traditional 4 in the team. Beside, Wanyama can also play as a central defender. Utd need him more than any other team

This guy is definately the jigsaw that is missing in the United engine-room , saf should go for him..as his price is low and no high wages..then still young.

5 days left and still a rumour?? I’m not sure if SAF actually realizes the glaring deficiencies in his team…last 15 minutes against Spurs were prime example when Utd couldn’t hold the ball even for a minute.. A .Spurs goal was inevitable. Moral of the story? If Utd and good old SAF want to win anything, someone like VW is essential, here and now. Zaha is good but a proper central midfielder is just critical.

M Carrick is aging every day so buying wanyama makes sense, it will keep carrick on his toes.

I hope SAF will go for him. We need a real battler in ManU midfield. He is the right fit. He is a player for two positions during injury crises. Injury cost us the league last season. We need him now more than Zaha.

Since the exit of big Roy Keane, SAF totally forgot the need for defensive midfielder, which explains why we have not only lost when we were not supposed to, but have continued to struggled, even agains those who used to lose games to us before kick off. Besides, we have consistently struggled in the middle and surrendered possession in the middle of the pack.
If we are to win back the premier league, we need a midfield enforcer in Victor Wanyama, in this January window, despite his being cup tied for the Champions league.
