With Toulouse midfielder Moussa Sissoko still on the radar at St James Park, Newcastle United have moved quickly to complete the signing of Bordeaux striker Yoan Gouffran.
He’s 26, he’s signed for four and half years and, although he’s not a full France international, he’s got a fair goals return of about 1 in 4 for Caen and Bordeaux.
After an excellent season at Caen he signed for Bordeaux in 2008 amidst heavy speculation linking him with a move to Arsenal.
With just 6 months left on his current contract Newcastle United have got him for a song and the player was clearly pleased with the move, posting on Twitter :
‘Tomorrow I will be a new player of Newcastle and I am proud. Thanks to everyone.” …….”Big thanks to everyone who has supported me through the good times and bad times. I thank the leadership of the club and the staff for helping me grow I need a new challenge and therefore I hope that you respect my choice. I will follow all the results of the Girondins.”
