A fan perspective from Thomas B.
Leeds United fans have made no secret about how they feel in regards to the job Neil Warnock is currently doing at Elland Road. The 63-year-old has been successful at his previous clubs – gaining promotion seven times in the process. However, his tenure at Leeds United has so far been a false dawn of expectation with fans showing their discontent at Warnock’s style of play.
Many neutrals fans are often guilty of being on the outside looking in; especially concerning a certain Stan Collymore. The former pro turned pundit used his ‘Call Collymore’ slot on talkSPORT to gain the opinion of Leeds fans and their thoughts on Neil Warnock.
Collymore cited Warnock’s track record and Leeds United’s current league position as reasons why Warnock is undeserving of his current unpopular status among fans. Facts are facts as Stan was entitled to point out, but the current ‘hoof ball’ tactics from Warnock have done little to fill the Elland Road faithful with much confidence going into games.
I tried my own hand at asking the opinion of fans on Twitter. Much like Stan Collymore, I received a one sided response.
‘@Id_Radebe_Leeds I want Leeds fans thoughts on Neil Warnock. I want to write an article that depicts what the fans currently think of him … Tweet me ’
Having posed this topical debate, I got a vast quantity of responses and here are some of those tweets:
@geemondo: ‘Genuine bloke but here for a last horah. Outdated tactics with passion fading fast’
@Pierredollar: ‘ Fast becoming one of our worst managers in recent years’
@JonnyStirk: ‘He is sir hoof knighted for his services to the beloved hoof ball’
@Leeds0113: ‘Respected NW+was v happy he joined. Its changed now. Dire football. Pathetic excuse after excuse when we lose. Time to go!’
@MontagueAidan: ‘He has experience but he hasn’t delivered. He has become a master of spin but I’m not fooled #warnockout #adkins4leeds’
@70Andyh: ‘He needs the backing to prove his worth. His record speaks for itself. Fine bal act for GFH. Investment v bal sheet v fans.’
@KeithThePiler :He’s only still here because of his previous promotions. Relies on #hoofball+can’t attract decent young players as a result
@boyblockley: ‘Thought he was the man for the job but too set in the footballing past. Must go in order for us to achieve anything’
@mcurr1 : ‘NW Unattractive methods, short term vision, no long term strategy! His way or no way, OK when right but no plan B!’
@djcaird85: ‘Warnocks days are hopefully numbered, on borrowed time, need to move the club forward for the long term #mot’
@ianjohnbrooke :‘He’s not the messiah…hes a very naughty boy#MOT’
A very one sided response from the Leeds United faithful, with only one or two fans believing that he deserves a chance to take the club forward. However, this could be a tough task as Warnock said at the start of the season that this was his last job before he retires.
It begs the question, are the new owners planning for the summer and not the January transfer window?
