Ashley Young is clearly desperate to do well for his new club but many believe that his arguably cynical antics, in consecutive weeks, have taken it too far.
It’s one thing falling over for a dodgy penalty once. But two weeks in a row makes the whole thing look a bit too Machiavellian. Ashley Young should have looked at the replays of the game against QPR, when he got Shaun Derry sent off, and chalked it down to experience. You can fool the referee in real time but you can’t fool the TV watching public when the action is replayed from various angles in super slo-mo time and again.
This is a clear example of ugly football. It’s not good for the game and I’m sure that Sir Alex Ferguson has had a word in the ear of the player, aswell as gently admonishing Young in public.
Hopefully Ashley Young will now try a bit harder to stay on his feet because not even fans of Manchester United will want to see this sort of behaviour on a regular basis. Bad reputations are easy to gain and difficult to shed.
