Tottenham’s biggest deadline day deal?

Great move

You would imagine that Mauricio Pochettino is too calculated for a knee-jerk reaction to the defeat by Liverpool at the weekend.

But Tottenham were turned over too easily at home and, even without that result, we expected the club to be one of the busier in the last day of the window.

We wouldn’t be surprised to see several players join Tottenham today but they seem best placed to make a move for Danny Welbeck of Manchester United.

The 23 year old forward is desperate for game time this season after spending too much time, for his liking, on the bench last term.

The problem is that he has Wayne Rooney and RvP ahead of him in the central positions at Manchester United so he often has to ply his trade out wide.

But he is a player who any club would like to have in their ranks. He’s powerful but also silky and makes things happen. He works tirelessly and if there is a weakness in his game it’s his finishing. If he could improve on that he could become the perfect Premier League number 9.

The Guardian reckons that Tottenham are still ahead int eh race fro his services, be it on loan or in a permanent deal.

Tottenham are the favourites to sign Welbeck, with Arsenal’s need for a striker tempting them, too, to consider the 24-year-old.

Let’s see Welbeck in action. Tottenham fans: keen?

You want Poch to sell half the team, including some people who look like they’re ready to really shine this season, and bench a quality striker? Nine out, six in – on deadline day. You sir, are an idiot.
