Manchester United: Midfield general puts United on transfer alert

Change of target?

Manchester United may not get their reported top target Arturo Vidal this summer. With the fees being mooted the club may be priced out of a transfer. They may not even sign Dutchman Nigel De Jong, who has also been linked with a move.

But what is surely unimaginable is that Manchester United will start the new season without any defensive midfield additions.

With so little quality in those central positions Manchester United are desperately in need of someone to run the engine room moving forward.

Ander Herrera will turn out to be a priceless addition for the club but he needs a real dominator
next to him in order to make the partnership and the midfield really potent.

Manchester United may well wait until January to see if Kevin Strootman has completely recovered from long term injury. But that could be a high-risk gamble and another potential contender has seemingly thrown his name into the hat over the last day or so.

Republic of Ireland midfielder James McCarthy had an excellent season last time out and he sometimes resembles Roy Keane in his no nonsense yet accurate game.

He has lit the fires of speculation by suggesting that he could be open to a move if an approach was made by Manchester United.

The Express quotes him as saying:

“If a club like Manchester United are interested, obviously you are doing a good job.

“We will see what happens.”

The remarks will do nothing to help his popularity at Everton and there has been precious little speculation linking him with a move to Manchester United.

But he is the sort of player that the club needs – a combative and highly mobile midfielder who always seems first into the challenge and also has good distribution.

It’s certainly not inconceivable that Manchester United could make a move. But you feel that they will pursue other targets first.

Let’s see the lad in action Manchester United: is McCarthy technically good enough to drive the team forward?

pls stop going for vidal, what is too special about vidal or what does he play dat other players can’t play,he feel he is the best in the world?forget about him and go for other young good players who will respect the club, they asked for Patric evra we gave him to them without issues now its there turn to give they are just turning us up and down, they are just too self centered, this is styles to delay us and waist our tym,at d end of the day we will end up not signing any again.go elsewhere and get good players ,which there are good midfielder elsewhere fork him vidal

Manchester united doesn’t have to waste so much time thinking of only one player,we have to move on there are so many quality and talented young players than Vidal.Man-united should learn from their past mistakes where they end up signing Felaini last season b’cos of the same issue,LVG pls act fast, there is no so much time and we have a lot to do,if Woodward doesn’t know how to approach things He should let another experience person to do the job because we cannot continue like this.Man-united signed only two players when we are suppose by now to have signed up to Five or Four talented players.

The so called Vidal was shining at a lesser league in Italy, maybe he is afraid of failing in the best league,English league. Paul pogba could not perform during his time at United, now at juventus, he has become a champion. Very poor league!
