Manchester United: Player ratings vs QPR

Good start

David De Gea – has become the one of the best five keepers in the world over the last 18 months and is usually immaculate. Such has been his quality that the hesitancy he showed in the first half, when he came out for a 50-50 which Manchester United were lucky to survive, looked completely out of character. 6/10

Marcos Rojo – his touch failed him failed on a couple of occasions but he looked as if he’d been playing for Manchester United for years. He’s got pace, power and penetration down the left hand side and Luke Shaw will have a real job on his hands to displace Rojo if LvG decides that full back/wing back is the Argentine’s best position 7

Jonny Evans – at times this term Evans has been abject and whilst this performance represented an improvement there was still a nervousness about the experienced international at times 6

Tyler Blackett – one really poor misjudgement in defence, where he allowed the ball to run across him to the oncoming QPR striker, almost ruined what was another really good and composed performance from the youngster. One of his best qualities is his distribution which was good again on Sunday 6

Rafael Da Silva – By selecting him ahead of Valencia it seems that LvG likes Rafa. And it will come as a relief to many Manchester United fans who feel that this is a proper Manchester United player. He was typically over eager to impress at times but gave a generally solid and dynamic performance 7

Daley Blind – with newcomers like Angel di Maria and Falcao on show Blind was never going to get the main billing. But he was one of Manchester United’s best players and another who looked as if it been playing in the red for years. A real find for Manchester United. 8

Ander Herrera – his debut in America was sensational but since then his trajectory has been a downward one. Although he gave the ball away a few times against QPR this was all an together more authoritative performance of real promise 7

Angel di Maria – pretty much a cut above anything else on the park. He flitted in and out of the second half, perhaps due to a lack of fitness. But his impact was game-changing in the first 45 and he provided the best moments of the match with his pace, trickery and penetration. Even at £60 million this looks like an excellent signing for the club 8

Juan Mata – Mata doesn’t have lots of power or pace. He’s not a real modern day athlete. But he has a great touch and spatial awareness. He will need to stay on top of his game if he’s going to remain in the first 11 – but the portents were good here 7

Wayne Rooney – involved in everything good that Manchester United did Rooney has taken on the captain’s armband with aplomb. Still possibly lacks a bit of match fitness after the summer. 8

RvP – you cannot doubt RVP’s application during this game but he was off the pace and he still needs more time to get back to full form and fitness after Brazil. 5

Subs: Falcao: Came on with a quarter of the game to go and flickered brightly, almost scoring from Robert Green’s parry late in the game. 6

MoM: Di Maria
