Incredible

We are all aware that Manchester United are in a transitional period at the moment. We are of course told just that by the media on a very regular basis. But the fact that Manchester United have had 3 managers in 18 months really tells you all you need to know about the somewhat diminished stability of the club since the first of those coaches – the legend – departed.

But the scale of changes on the football field is laid bare by examination of The Guardian’s expected line ups for the game at West Brom on Monday evening.

With Rooney suspended it shows an almost incredible 7 starters who have joined the club in this calendar year.

We knew that there would be big changes but it’s almost impossible to imagine what the team looked like this time last year when Mata, Falcao, Di Maria, Blind, Herrera, Rojo and Shaw where all plying their trade at different clubs.

Unlike Liverpool, for example, a quick review of the arrivals shows that Manchester United have undoubtedly invested well. Taking any of the new players out of that side would noticeably weaken the starting eleven.

We talk about United in transition. But it’s safe to say that, while we can expect a couple more arrivals, the period of wholesale changes is now behind us. United have a new team with a great average age and now it’s time for that team to show what it’s capable of.

Manchester United fans – happy with the new look team?

Three managers in 18 months! But also the same three managers for the past 28 years.
