Chelsea’s Strongest XI vs Sporting Lisbon

Easy

Sporting Lisbon have some decent players in their squad – young midfield general William Carvalho chief amongst them – but they have long been a selling club and have made a mint in the transfer market.

Let’s face it, anything less than a comfortable victory for Chelsea will be seen as a big disappointment for Jose. Having drawn at home against Schalke they need to assert their dominance in this group if they want a comfortable qualification.

The squad looks in excellent shape and the only definite Chelsea injury is to Ramires, who will be out for another week with an abductor muscle strain. There are also continued concerns over their new hero Diego Costa who has persistent hamstring problems.

Chelsea are of course desperate for the win but we feel that Costa that may be rested for this game and brought on as a substitute if needed. The pace and directness of Loic Remy have yet to be properly employed by the club and we think that this may be his chance to make a real impression.

The Blues will be devastating on the counter-attack if they start with the Frenchman and can expect three points with such a quick forward line and solid defence.

So here is what we believe to be the strongest Chelsea line up for the game in Lisbon on Tuesday night. Chelsea fans: let’s have your thoughts.
