It’s fair to say Manchester City have been hit pretty hard by the loss of Ilkay Gundogan.
The Germany international has suffered another serious injury having already had to delay his City debut until September, and it’s come at an awful time with Fernandinho suspended.
The former Borussia Dortmund star will be out for several months, something Pep Guardiola’s side clearly felt it necessary to acknowledge before their game against Arsenal.
A 2-1 victory over the Gunners wasn’t enough to prevent City being widely ridiculed for their tribute to Gundogan, which may have been a little extreme.
Quite why they felt the need to imprint his name on their shirts will never be known, but they were basically asking to be mocked.
RIP Gundogan, who sadly died of embarrassment today. pic.twitter.com/MQDyosmHvA

Almost as bad as when the Brazil team held a funeral for Neymar at the World Cup when he got injured pic.twitter.com/FYRBIOFdKB

City team wearing Gundogan shirts is ridiculous. Man's injured, not dead.

Gundogan might not be dead, but something has died at the Etihad today: Arsenal's season. #MCFCvAFC

City: 'Make sure we win this, it's a tribute to Gundogan'
Inner City: 'Defend awfully. He's dead. He won't know' pic.twitter.com/TJqy2HLTLr

Nothing wrong with City and their players supporting their injured players, but that's a bit cringey with Gundogan there. He's not dead!
