More Pace: Manchester United’s XI by the end of the window?

More Pace

We aren’t holding out huge hope that Manchester United will make serious investment in January. The noises coming out of Old Trafford suggest that big recruitment may have to wait until the summer.

But we feel that two of the best signings that could be made by Manchester United are potentially gettable this month. And what a difference they could make.

Manchester United need to bring in a centre back but that may have to wait until the summer when Mats Hummels may be more open to a move.

And there is an equally pressing problem with the right flank which has been unable to penetrate the opposition with regularity this season. Perhaps these problems can be solved sooner rather than later with the signings of Nathaniel Clyne and Memphis Depay. Both have been linked to Manchester United over the weekend.

They have the pace, power and athleticism to make a huge difference to this side. We would go as far as to say the whole team could click into place if these two came in. Manchester United would be a pacey, direct and penetrative 4-3-3/4-2-3-1.

Manchester United need greater speed of play on the counter. They need to get behind defences more often and more quickly because they simply aren’t frightening opponents at this point of the season. There is way too much posturing – dinking the ball around in front of the opponent without any forward surge. United aren’t putting teams on the back foot. They aren’t stretching them out of position or hurting them with quick jabs. They used to leave teams feeling mugged. But at times this season there has been a look of mild amusement on the face of the opponent.

It’s been so tame at times that the best hope of success is that the opposition simply falls asleep – wooed into dream state by the safeness of it all.

Clyne and Depay would be the perfect complement to Shaw and Di Maria on the left. And Manchester United would be eminently more exciting to watch. Job done.

So here’s our rather optimistic XI for February. A team that would get into the top four without any problems at all.

Manchester United fans: Agreed?

complete waste of a place with fellaini in there – Herrera can actually pass the ball as well as score (and has more goals and assists in the team in far less game time)

I agree with everything there ..just that sometimes if Fellaini isn`t doing well, we can swap with Herera and Jones and Smalling i don`t know who to choose coz smalling has really done well after the Man shitty game

Here we go again with over-hyped English player talk again. Luke Shaw is a terrible player hyped into prominence and as expected he has roundly flopped but even till date, he is still expected to give what he dos’nt have, blaming it on injury and fitness (why?). Before him was Phil Jones who similarly, the English hype has refused to die even though he is an obvious calamity happenig. Now its Nat Clyne; another English player being hyped to relevance for MU to gulibly acquire for another episode of “The MU English flop”. This is becomig very embarassing and annoying.
